Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a well known Twitter and Facebook fan, has now added YouTube to his social media arsenal.
Mullen has invited the troops to join him in a YouTube-driven "virtual town hall" between now and the end of the month, and he is open to any questions from folks in uniform or from their families.
"The chairman really wants to have a conversation with the troops akin to the way he does all-hands calls at bases all over the world," Navy Capt. John Kirby, Mullen's public affairs officer, told American Forces Press Service. "He wanted that conversation to be as interactive as possible and reflective of what is on their minds."
Though it's an oft-repeated assumption that Web 2.0 technologies are the province of the young, the 63- year-old Mullen proves that age is no barrier to using any of these tools.
I guess I'm going to have to do something with my Twitter account besides just letting it sit there.

COMMENTS
To STEVE who commented. Not everyone has a yard and a pool and property to maintain. A lot of people barely keep a roof over their heads. Many of us who have family all over the country can only keep in touch through some of these social networking sites. The part that wastes time on the social sites is the stupid games. The Admiral probably doesn't have time for those.

This show Admiral Mike’s progressive leadership and the right stuff. The Admiral has my vote for president. This man instills confidence in his troops.
I guess that’s why he is an Admiral.

through both personal experience and fisrt hand observation of others, I can tell you that if you have time to TWITTER or FACEBOOK, you are probably neglecting your family, children, job, and personal well being.
In addition to that, you get tons of SPAM. I am personally alarmed that the top military leader in America has the time for this. I have a job, family and a yard, pool and property to maintain, and I can tell you that I do not have time for farting around on those social networking sites.
