The Defense Department plans to launch a new Web portal, Defense.gov on Aug. 17, which will serve as "the table of contents for DoD," Tom Dorsz, deputy director for the public Web at the Pentagon, told me.
The portal will serve as the entry point for public and internal users who want to access information not easily found using Defenselink, Dorsz said. That site will continue to focus on news, while the new portal will help users find information on contracts or internal forms, for example, he said.
The new portal also will feature Web 2.0 links such as Twitter and Facebook, Dorsz added.

Not exactly ready for prime time IMO. Bottom navigation space supposed to take you to DoD Websites>Social Media, but the link is broken. And the way the site was designed, you can't even report a broken link to them without providing 57 bits of information. I tried, but who knows if they even got the message.
